Structural Heart Evaluation & Interventions
Procedures Explained
Structural heart disease refers to problems of valves or congenital holes in the heart. Many can now be treated without open-heart surgery.
ASD/VSD/PDA/PFO Closure:
Via a catheter, a device (umbrella-like) is placed to close the hole. Done under general anesthesia or deep sedation.

Mitral Balloon Valvotomy (PBMV):
A balloon is threaded to the mitral valve and inflated to open it. Used for rheumatic valve narrowing

TAVR
(Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement):
A new valve is delivered via artery to replace the diseased aortic valve. Done in select elderly/high-risk patients with a team approach.
